5 Best Practices for Self Development

Every one of us are on a different journey in life, some are on a self-love journey, some are on a self-awareness journey, just like our destinies are different, so are our paths but one thing we all have in common is the desire to be a better “Self”.

For those of us on a self-development journey, I’ve decided to share some best practices as seen, heard or experienced.

Practice Humility: We all like to be perceived as humble, more so that some of us take to social media to emphasise on how humble they are. I cringe when I see posts like these. Perhaps, this makes those who do such or have done such in the past, feel better about themselves. I however strongly believe that if you are really humble, you wouldn’t have to brag about it, you just live by it. As someone once said, “Many will be scantily clad if clothed in humility.” If you had to be clothed right now in humility how many items will you have on? Think on this.
Let’s practice humility, genuine humility, it goes a long way.

Practice Listening:  Most of us would like to think that we are good listeners but are we really? Are we actually giving the conversations we have thoughtful attention?  With the rise of social media and communication gadgets a lot of us falter to effectively listen and this affects communication which in turn affects relationships. So, instead of waiting for your turn to retort, practice listening genuinely and absorbing information before responding.

Practice Your Confidence: Like they say, confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can wear.  When you’re confident in yourself, it shows and shines brighter than any expensive jewelry you have on and draws people to you. Some people tend to cross the line between self-confidence and cockiness (which is a very thin one), ensure you don’t.  Practice your confidence because your life will be so much better once you start believing in yourself.

Practice Honesty:  Practice being honest with your friends, your family, your acquaintances and most importantly, yourself because let’s be honest, honesty will always be the best policy even in a world where dishonesty is the norm.

Above all, Pray More: If there was one master key that does wonders, it is prayer. Prayer is the only key that doesn’t just open doors, but the right ones. It also has the capacity to lock the doors that could potentially, lead to destruction, nowhere or distract you from fulfilling your purpose. Cultivating a healthy prayer lifestyle should be at the top of your priority list if it is not already on there. Practice praying more, that’s one firm foundation that wouldn’t let you sink regardless of what storm comes your way.

Which of the above have you been practicing, please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
