HN Feature: Lola Savage

Born in Chicago to Nigerian Parents, Lola Savage began her life as an artist/performer at the age of 4 as she grew up singing in her church's choir. This helped strengthen her vocal ability because she had to learn music's "Tonic sol-fa" in depth. At age 18, Lola started performing at talent shows and singing and dancing in high school and at age 19, in 2002, Lola auditioned and was picked to join a well known local R&B group in chicago alongside 3 other singers which included her elder sister and actress Sheri Savage Osidipe.

After a series of successful performances for major record labels like Jive, Epic, Virgin and Columbia Records, Lola switched lanes to explore her second love - Modeling. Lola explored modeling with well known and reputable modeling agency, Elite Models, in Chicago for a short period before deciding that music was were her heart belonged so he decided to go for it.

What brings you the greatest satisfaction personally and professionally?
Personally, it's knowing that God can give me the strength to mother two beautiful children. It's knowing that I'm still alive and lucky to have such an amazing family. Professionally, even if it is mediocre.....knowing that I am able to unveil the God-given talents I acquire because I know that there are many people who wish everyday that they posses the same. Still I'm grateful, and with hard work and perseverance I've been able to reach this peak as a singer and actress and won't stop.

What quote do you live by?
I have quite a few but one I always say is "you may slow down, but never stop pushing." Another is "Being you is immaculate awesomeness. Just build your purpose." ...which I thought of by the way. (Lol)

What advice would you give your 18 year old self?

You have your whole life ahead of you and so much to offer. Always make great choices and do not let anyone bring you down. Strive for greatness, remain humble and stay prayerful.

On "Women Supporting Women"...

Women supporting women I believe is one of the most key factors in this world we live in. Instead of being there for each other, unfortunately women tend to be very defensive and catty towards each other, which I feel only raises the stress level. We are victims of being stereo-typed around the world, which is a valid reason why every community should come together and have one voice in any situation that is against us. We need a community filled with women that can share dreams, ideas and goals with other women in order for us to continue believing in ourselves and keep going. We need peer-mentors, we need integrity builders as well as help with growth. We need women that will help with patching up the spots that don't need to be exposed. Whatever it is that we women can do to help build each other up is the empowerment and not always having a spirit of competition, malice and defamation. We need women supporting/empowering women because it's simply an act of love.
