HN Feature: Zipho Ntloko


Zipho Ntloko is a freelance beauty writer and makeup artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Zipho initially wanted to focus on interior design or architecture as a career and even recall applied for culinary school at one point before deciding to go the beauty route. Zipho has worked with Cosmopolitan – one of the best print magazines in the country – and states that the experience that not only taught her A LOT about the publishing industry but also helped identify her personal strengths and passion – which is all things beauty.

Perfectionist, Dreamer, Shy.

Three must-have tools, apps, or products that are essential to your job
Instagram, my makeup kit (I know that’s a cheat choice but it’s impossible for me to choose just ONE beauty product 😛 ) and a computer/laptop.

Who/What inspires you? 
Pat McGrath – she’s one of the most famous makeup artists in the world, and her creativity is out of this world..

What was the best piece of advice you’ve been given in your career? 
Relax and stop doubting yourself. I still struggle to follow this advice, but I’m getting better.

What brings you the greatest satisfaction personally and professionally? 
Making my parents proud and achieving my goals (Yes, I’m also rolling my eyes at how cheesy this sounds, but it’s the truth).

What quote do you live by?
“Hustle hard until you no longer have to introduce yourself.”

What advice would you give your 18 year old self? 
Stop comparing yourself to others, and just try to be better. You’ll feel a lot happier and more confident in the end.
