You have had an impressive career, beginning with your upbringing in Port Harcourt and progressing to the industry through your success on Nigerian Idol and then into gospel music. Tell us about your background and how your present circumstance came to be. I was born in Rivers State, and my musical journey is rooted in a simple background, with my late father playing a huge part in that. I began singing at 8, joining the church’s children’s choir (The Apostolic Church), moving on to becoming the choir director for the youth department, and progressing to singing backup for various artists. All supported and encouraged by my family. This early involvement in music, through the church and various competitions, including Nigerian Idol, laid the groundwork for my gospel music career, showing the Grace of God and the importance of hard work and consistency.

How has your faith and personal experiences influenced your music and style as a gospel artist? My music and style as a gospel artist are deeply influenced by my faith and personal walk with God. From my early days in the church choir to becoming a recognized artist, it’s been a journey of faith that has shaped my message and approach to music. This spiritual journey, reflecting growth and reliance on God’s grace, is evident in the songs I share, aiming to share the good news and uplift others.

Can you talk about the inspiration behind some of your most popular songs and how they have resonated with audiences? Okay, so I’m going to talk about ‘Confidence.’ The inspiration for ‘Confidence,’ track 1 on my Elevated EP, came during a period of seeking personal strength, inspired by Hebrews 12:2’s depiction of Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith.

It’s interesting how the one encouraging others, sometimes needs encouragement as well. ‘Wonder‘, on the other hand, explores the awe of God’s sovereignty, inspired by His infinite greatness and mercies. Both songs resonate with listeners through their messages of faith, encouragement, and divine assurance, reflecting our shared spiritual experiences.

Your previous EP, “Elevated,” achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 100 million streams worldwide and continues to do well on the charts till date. Did you envision ever being a gospel artist and being incredibly successful at it The journey from humble beginnings to achieving such milestones with ‘Elevated’ has been beyond my expectations. Grounded in faith and supported by my fans’ love, this path reflects the scripture from Haggai 2:9 about the glory of the latter surpassing the glory of the former. It’s a testament to God’s grace and the unexpected ways He leads us to success.

What inspired you to record OVERWHELMING VICTORY, your most recent album? Inspired by Romans 8:37 (NLT), ‘Overwhelming Victory’ embodies the spiritual victory we possess through Christ’s love. The album, through songs like ‘Father Eh’ and ‘My Lover,’ showcases various aspects of this victory—faithfulness, might, joy, and reassurance in our faith journey. It’s created to uplift, inspire, and affirm the listener’s faith, offering spiritual insights and encouragements.

How does this new album reflect your personal growth and journey as an artist, and what distinguishes this album from your prior works? ‘Overwhelming Victory’ marks a new chapter in my personal and artistic journey. The creation process involved intentional focus, late nights, and a deeper commitment to sharing my faith journey. I had to do a lot of things I never believed I could do; like recording a 12-track album while pregnant with my son. As a result, the album distinguishes itself by its depth, reflecting another perspective on faith’s victory over challenges and a more intimate glimpse into my spiritual walk.

Can you tell us about any collaborations or special features on the album? The Overwhelming Victory album features enriching collaborations with Mummy Chioma Jesus on ‘Too Many Reasons’ (Track 9) and Pastor Jerry Eze on ‘Amara Onyewem’ (Track 4). I included these collaborations to bring a more diverse spiritual depth to the project, enhancing its message and broadening its appeal with their unique perspectives.

How would you describe the overall message or theme of your new album, “Overwhelming Victory”? The ‘Overwhelming Victory’ album centres on the theme of victorious faith through Christ, as promised in Romans 8:37 (NLT). The album is a testament to the power of faith, offering hope, encouragement, and a reminder that Overwhelming Victory is ours through faith. It was created to encourage and strengthen listeners in the love of Christ.

How do you stay true to your faith and message while also appealing to a diverse audience? By focusing on the message of Jesus; inclusive of hope, resilience, and divine love. Sharing my faith experiences and the hope found in Christ through my songs allows my music to resonate with a broad audience, providing comfort and inspiration across diverse backgrounds.

Lastly, congratulations on being a new mum. What are your future plans and goals for your personal and professional growth? Thank you! My future plans include becoming a better version of myself; balancing this new role with my music career, and aspiring to further growth in both areas. I aim to continue creating music that reflects my journey, resonates with listeners, and spreads messages of hope and faith, sharing the light of Christ through my work.
