Ahyiana Angel (Born in Cali) is a sassy storyteller and a former sports entertainment publicist at the National Basketball Association (NBA). She is an author and the creator of famous blog “Life According To Her.” Angel’s work has been featured on XOJane.com, ClutchMagOnline.com, among others. Angel has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Marketing from California State University, Long Beach.
With her title as “Chief Encourager” at LATH, she reminds us of the quote by Dave Willis – Be an encourager, the world has plenty of critics already – and to say that she’s not doing a bad job at all encouraging women, would be putting it lightly.
Don’t hold back on your dopeness. Don’t dumb it down for anyone and challenge yourself more. – Ahyiana Angel
Who is Ahyiana Angel?
I am a woman who loves adventure and exploring, who enjoys spending time with family and friends, and I am a creator. I am also a goal chaser, which has allowed me the opportunity to become an author, and the Chief Encourager at Life According To Her.
What inspired the creation of the platform “Life According to HER“?
Life According To Her was created for multiple reasons. The direction for LATH was born out of my observation of this mean girl culture that was bubbling from real life situations to reality TV and more. Personally I knew that I didn’t want to participate so I wanted to create a space where a total stranger could support another woman that was a stranger, in a big or small way, and it would feel good and normal, change the interactions.
LATH is also there to be a part of changing the conversation as to how women support and act toward one another. I was surprised at how total strangers were more supportive of me when I entered the entrepreneurial journey as opposed to the people that were friends or associates. I took note and decided that I wanted to create a community of goodness and support for those that are chasing their dreams.
How did the title “Chief Encourager” come about?
Chief Encourager ended up being a title that simply fit because I found that friends and people that I barely knew were always coming to me and sharing their dreams and plans, asking me for advice and guidance and I would always share what I knew and cheer them on. I just realized one day that there was something that I was putting into the universe naturally that made people gravitate to me, I had an Oprah ah ha moment when I realized that I am naturally an encourager. I always want to see people win.
What are you passionate about and why?
I am passionate about encouraging others to be their best and the advancement of women. I am passionate about telling the stories of contemporary women that look like me, the other side of what mainstream media shows.
What is your personal vision statement?
Sometimes I just flow and go so I actually don’t have a personal vision statement, but maybe that is something I’ll work on developing in the new year!
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
My experiences in life have taught me to take chances even when I’m not sure of the outcomes. I took a huge chance quitting my PR job at the NBA, but because it was the right timing for me and I trusted myself, everything worked out better than I could have expected with me landing a traditional publishing deal only four months later for my first book Preseason Love.
I also learned that if I’m not satisfied with a situation then I have the power to make decisions that will change my circumstance. I am in control of more than I realized, that is the most important lesson, I am in control.

What is your take on “women supporting women”?
I’m all about women supporting women, it’s just an easier way of life. It is much easier to spread love and support than to push hate and isolation. When women support other women we become stronger as a whole. LATH presents three month sessions for group encouragement and accountability called HER Power Circle, next session opens October 1, and you would be surprised how much more you can achieve when you have a support system behind you.
Since a young girl I’ve always been the type to have a variety of friends and circles that I connect with. I think that is just the makeup of who I am, an inclusive person vs and exclusive person. When I see women supporting other women naturally, it just makes me feel good and I’m proud to be included in furthering that message.
What is your favourite Quote?
Feel the fear then do it anyway.
If you could give advice to your younger self, what would you say to her?
Don’t hold back on your dopeness. Don’t dumb it down for anyone and challenge yourself more. Push past any fear that you feel, it’s only temporary.
Time travel or teleportation?
Time travel for sure!
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?Racism and racial bias. I would make it so that it felt like it never existed. If that were to happen then I feel like it would have a domino effect in solving some of the world’s other major problems.
What would you like to be remembered for?
I would like to be remembered for the positive contributions that I will have made in creating uplifting and engaging content for women, from digital to the big screen. 🙂
