Professional Storyteller

Describe yourself in 3 words
Talkative. Persistent. Nerdy.

What are three must-have tools, apps, or products that are essential to your job?
I use Dropbox to backup all of my work (including the app that lets me access all of my documents on the go). I also use several programs in the Adobe Creative Suite to design all of my brand graphics. From my website to my social media posts, everything needs to be on-brand (color, font, etc.). I also carry a physical notebook. I can write more quickly than I can type in my phone. So, when I think of article or project ideas, story-lines, or even just a phrase that I like, I write it all down. I might put it in a digital space later, but my favorite ideas often started with pen and paper.

Who/What inspires you?
I’m inspired by breaking stereotypes. I feel like as women, people are constantly trying to put us in certain boxes, but we’re so much more. We are dynamic, we’re all different, and we’re unstoppable when we set our sights on something greater than ourselves.

What was the best piece of advice you’ve been given in your career?
One of my mentors told me to “always operate from a position of power.” He meant to always interact with people as if I’m worthy of whatever opportunity I’m seeking. People don’t want to work with someone who is insecure — they’re looking for that confidence.

What brings you the greatest satisfaction personally and professionally?
I‘m really satisfied when I finish something new. Whether it’s getting a new recipe down or writing an article in a new area, the joy is in the process: it was hard, I pushed through, I came out on top. I think that’s why I love writing so much — there’s always a new challenge and you can always be better.

What quote do you live by?
“I was once afraid of people saying, ‘Who does she think she is?’ Now I have the courage to stand and say, ‘This is who I am.'” — Oprah

What advice would you give your younger self?
Be yourself, unapologetically. The rest of the world will deal or get out of the way.
