Tell us a little bit about your background.
Growing up I always knew that I wanted to help people, but in what capacity? I wasn’t so sure at the beginning. At a point in time, I thought it was going to be by saving lives as a doctor, and at another, it seemed like defending the helpless to get justice as a lawyer was what I needed to do. However, my personal story chose the best path for me, which is to help people achieve financial goals that matter most to them and live a fulfilling financial life.

I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Rather, I come from a home that had seasons of just enough and seasons of extreme scarcity. As a young adult, I knew I wanted so much more for myself, and this singular goal led me down the path of pursuing financial education. When I experienced the impact of this knowledge and how it completely changed my life, I knew I wanted to help other people do the same. This passion became a full-blown career and business that has impacted over 30,000 people today.

How does your background as a certified capital market and security analyst influence your approach to financial planning for everyday professionals?
Investment planning is an important part of helping people structure their finances. I quickly realized this as a financial planner, and I knew the best way to add so much more value to my clients was to become an expert with a thorough understanding of all the investment securities out there. Now, my clients rely on my knowledge and expertise as not just a financial planner but also as a certified capital market and security analyst to structure their finances and build wealth.

What inspired you to dedicate your career to helping 9-to-5 professionals achieve financial freedom?
Many 9-5ers have heard that they cannot build wealth or achieve financial freedom while working for someone else for years. Spiritual leaders have preached it, and financial gurus have shouted it from the rooftop.

I, on the other hand, have dedicated my career to helping career professionals I encounter believe otherwise – that you can build so much wealth as a 9-5er, and choosing not to be a business owner is not a limitation. In fact, you have so many advantages on your wealth-building journey as a career professional.

I also realized that it is quite easy to neglect the intentional efforts required to build wealth as a career professional especially when you live in the bubble of the financial security that comes with your paycheck. Imagine that 10-15 years into working, you have no income-generating asset to your name. These needs inspired me to dedicate my career to helping 9-5ers.

Your platform, MoneyTalksWithIfe, offers daily personal finance tips. What is one common misconception about personal finance do you encounter most frequently through this platform?
The biggest misconception is when I see people approach investing like a “get-rich-quick” scheme. Investing is a long-term commitment that can give you short-term gains. You must understand that wealth building is a continuous action you keep doing until you have the quality of financial life you envisioned for yourself.

Earlier this year, in commemorating IWD, you held what has been called the biggest financial literacy conference in Abuja, tell us more about how your conference impacted women in attendance.
With the Abuja Financial Literacy Conference, we were able to impact over 3,000 women with the knowledge to take their finances to the next level. The goal was to inspire women to dream bigger, break all mental limitations, and gain practical knowledge to own the power of choice that money gives. Many women are in unpleasant situations just because they don’t have the power to choose the best option for themselves and we believe that when they have control over their finances, they would be able to make the best decisions for themselves.

We were able to achieve our objectives and till this day, we get emails from women whose lives have been transformed due to the work we did. I must say, birthing this conference would not have been possible without my team members- Seyi Abiodun, Busola Adewale-Kayode, Mercy Agbeti, Dr Sarah Amana, and Hazel Iwendi.

Next year’s edition is already in the works.

How do you tailor your financial planning strategies to meet the needs of individuals with varying income levels and financial backgrounds?
In my years of experience, I have realized that personal finance is very personal and to be able to genuinely help people as a financial planner, I have cultivated the habit of listening intentionally. When I am speaking to an individual in need of my services, I don’t focus on my academic knowledge at this point or assume what their needed solution might be. My singular focus is to listen to their story, past struggles, and desired future. Then would I be able to provide their personalized solution.

What advice do you have for professionals who feel overwhelmed by the prospect of managing their finances and planning for the future?
You most likely feel overwhelmed because you genuinely want to do better with your finances, yet it feels out of control. Well, this is how I help my clients- take a journal to list out the things you currently spend money on, this will help you see where you are in your finances as you cannot begin a journey of transformation when you’ve not first figured out where the problem is coming from. Then, with the clarity you have, you want to write out the financial goals that are important to you.

The next step is to list out actionable steps you can take to go from where you currently are to your desired future/goals. Nobody goes through these steps without coming out feeling in complete control of their financial life.

What are your future goals for MTWI Financial Services and how do you plan to expand your impact in the field of financial education?
Our goal is to be the top financial planning company for Africans and help our clients build sustainable wealth. We will continue to do what we already do excellently, which is helping people transform their financial stories and achieve the financial goals that matter to them. We intend for our message to get louder as we grow, so we can impact more lives.
