Dr. Promise, tell us a little bit about your background.
I hail from Cross River State, though I was born in the North and raised in Cross River. I’m the last of 12 children in a home that shaped my entrepreneurial spirit from a very young age. My mother, a serial businesswoman, and my late father, a retired military officer and lecturer, instilled in us the values of independence and hard work.

Growing up, my parents believed in self-sufficiency; they would rather have us use our modest pocket money just ₦2,000 or ₦3,000 back then to start a small business than ever resort to begging. This mindset profoundly influenced me. I developed a strong aversion to asking for financial help because rejection left me feeling embarrassed and powerless.

That experience became a driving force for me to earn my own money. I’ve always had a taste for the finer things in life, and I never wanted to be a burden to anyone. These values self-reliance, ambition, and a passion for excellence are what continue to fuel my journey as a successful entrepreneur today.

What inspired you to found Rukkies House Group, and how did you envision its impact on various industries in Africa?
Rukkies House Group was born out of a desire to create a multi-faceted platform that fosters creativity, innovation, and empowerment across Africa. We started as a modeling and event management agency, laying the foundation for what would become a diverse group of businesses. Over time, we expanded into

Understanding the diverse needs of African markets, we ventured into luxury beauty with Rnbighairs, curating premium hair solutions for women of color, later explored the world of creativity and design which birthed Rukkiesdecor, a leading name in floral artistry and design, which also birthed an academy dedicated to empowering aspiring florists and designers. and established ourselves as a global sourcing partner for businesses with RH global sourcing.

My vision for Rukkies House Group has always been to impact multiple industries by offering innovative solutions, empowering talents, and elevating standards across beauty, design, events, and global trade. Today, we are proud to contribute to Africa’s growth story by creating opportunities, transforming spaces, and inspiring excellence.

Can you share your journey from the initial idea to the establishment of a diverse group of companies? My journey began with a passion for modeling, pageantry, and event management, where I laid the foundation for what would become Rukkies House Group. Working in that space, I honed my skills in organization, creativity, and business management, which prepared me for the next phase of my entrepreneurial journey.

Driven by a love for beauty and empowering women, I launched Rnbighairs, a brand that curates luxury hair solutions for women of color. That venture gave me the confidence to explore my creativity further, leading me into the floral artistry and design industry with Rukkiesdecor. Through Rukkiesdecor, I was able to redefine spaces across Africa while also establishing an academy to empower aspiring florists and designers.

This growth and experience naturally positioned me as a global sourcing partner, helping businesses access high-quality products and solutions across industries. From one idea to a thriving group of companies, my journey has been fueled by passion, creativity, and a commitment to excellence, proving that diverse ideas can come together to create lasting impact.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced and surmounted as a female entrepreneur in Africa, in the last year?
In the past year, two major challenges stand out for me as an entrepreneur in Africa. The first is the volatility of the exchange rate, which has significantly impacted sourcing and business operations, especially when dealing with international markets. Navigating this challenge required strategic planning and adaptability to ensure the business remained efficient and profitable.

The second challenge has been finding qualified, skilled, and creative talent to execute tasks at the high standards we maintain at Rukkies House Group. While we invest in training to bridge this gap, it remains a continuous process.

Interestingly, I haven’t faced significant gender inequality, even while operating in a male-dominated industry. I believe that excellence, consistency, and delivering results have helped me earn my place and the respect of my peers.

Can you describe some of the innovative solutions Rukkies House Group has implemented to address challenges in the industries you operate in?
At Rnbighairs, we focus on providing luxury hair solutions for women of color at affordable prices. By offering premium quality without the exorbitant cost, we ensure that women can enjoy confidence and beauty without financial strain.

Our innovative approach to floral artistry and landscaping includes high-quality, realistic designs that require zero or minimal maintenance, addressing the need for aesthetic, long-term solutions.

With RAFAD (Rukkies Academy for Floral Artistry and Design), one of the first floral artistry and design schools in West Africa, we’ve bridged a critical gap by offering people the opportunity to learn the craft locally without traveling abroad for certification. This has democratized access to professional floral training across the continent.

Together, these solutions reflect our commitment to innovation, affordability, and excellence, solving real challenges across industries and empowering individuals and businesses across Africa.

How do you see the role of technology and digital transformation in shaping the future of businesses like yours?
Technology and digital transformation play a pivotal role in the future of businesses like mine. At Rukkies House Group, technology has enabled us to streamline operations, connect with global markets, and deliver exceptional services efficiently. For instance, digital platforms have made it easier for us to source products globally, engage with clients, and showcase our work to a wider audience.

In the beauty and design industries, advancements in digital tools, like 3D visualizations and virtual consultations, are transforming how we present and execute projects. Social media and e-commerce platforms have also allowed us to reach and serve customers across Africa and beyond seamlessly.

Additionally, technology empowers RAFAD, our academy, by providing opportunities for online learning and virtual workshops, breaking barriers of location and accessibility for students.

Embracing digital transformation ensures that we stay competitive, innovative, and better equipped to solve industry challenges. It’s the driving force for growth, efficiency, and expanding our impact across Africa and beyond.

As a female leader in business, how do you support and empower other women in your industry? Empowering other women has always been at the core of my mission. As a female leader, I strive to create opportunities for women to excel, both within my businesses and in the broader industry. Through RAFAD (Rukkies Academy for Floral Artistry and Design), I offer training and certification to women aspiring to succeed in the floral and design industries, providing them with the skills and confidence to start their own businesses or enhance their careers.

I also prioritize mentorship, offering guidance to young women in business and encouraging them to believe in their potential. By fostering a culture of collaboration over competition, I ensure that the women around me have the support they need to thrive.

Additionally, I make it a point to feature and collaborate with women-led businesses, giving them the platform and visibility to grow. At Rukkies House Group, women are not just employees—they are integral parts of the vision, shaping the future of our industries.

The journey may not always be easy, but resilience and determination are key to overcoming obstacles. Start by identifying a gap in the market or an area you’re passionate about, and focus on delivering value to your customers.
