Your journey into the wellness industry is inspiring. Can you share what sparked your passion for wellness and well-being?
I take great satisfaction in enhancing the appearances of those I meet, finding joy in seeing someone well-dressed and confident. Early on, I discovered my passion for helping others feel confident, whether by offering a simple affirmation like “You look exceptional, you’ve got this,” or through dressing and styling them. I realised early on that my passion lies in assisting people to present themselves at their best, and I take immense pride in this.

For me, it’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about instilling confidence and self-assurance. This profession is more than just work; it is a vocation that aligns with my core values. Helping individuals look and feel their best brings me genuine happiness, and I am dedicated to pursuing this path with passion and commitment.

What personal or professional experiences have most influenced your current path?
There was a time when I seriously considered fashion design as a career due to my desire to help people look and feel their best.

After the birth of my son, I faced body insecurities, which was a particularly challenging experience for me, as someone who has always been passionate about boosting others’ confidence. Navigating through that period, I realised the importance of prioritising my own well-being.

My passion for helping others motivated me to regain my confidence and fuelled my own journey back to a place of self-assurance. Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the struggles many women face, particularly after childbirth, and how difficult it can be for them to regain their sense of self. This realisation inspired me to support other women in regaining and reclaiming their confidence and well-being.

While my personal experience was rooted in the challenges of motherhood, my mission extends beyond that. It’s about empowering women to reconnect with themselves, regardless of their circumstances. Throughout this journey, I have been able to assist women who face similar struggles, offering guidance and encouragement that has helped them reconnect with their sense of identity.

Tell us more about Neubelle Med and Wellness Center. How has your educational background influenced the services you offer?
Neubelle Med and Wellness Centre is more than just a clinic; it’s a sanctuary. The name Neubelle, meaning ‘New Beauty’, embodies our mission: everyone who steps into Neubelle should leave feeling rejuvenated and renewed. It’s akin to the experience of entering a sacred space, such as a church, where you emerge feeling refreshed and whole —this is the essence of the Neubelle experience.

With my academic background in the sciences, particularly in chemistry, I have gained a deep understanding of various chemicals and ingredients, including acids, and their role in skin exfoliation. Also, my expertise as a Laser Technician has equipped me to discern the most appropriate machines and settings for different skin types.

Over the years, I have developed a specialised mastery in treating skin of colour, recognising that our skin has unique characteristics that are not always reflected in mainstream treatments. I can confidently say that Neubelle is Nigeria’s premier laser clinic, a reputation that is reflected in the extensive range of laser machines and services we offer.

What are some of the key insights that you have gained from your global studies that have contributed to your dedication to enhancing the well-being of Nigerians?
During my travels, I have observed a recurring issue among Nigerians: a lack of attention to self-care. This is a narrative I am passionate about changing. Nigerians need to realise that life is not just about work or business; taking time for self-care is equally crucial. A healthy body leads to greater productivity and long-term success.

Culturally, we often push ourselves to the brink of burnout, neglecting the necessity of regular self-care. Neubelle Med and Wellness Centre is about more than just physical wellness; it also focuses on mental well-being. It’s about creating a safe space where you can clear your mind and rejuvenate.

In other nations, if someone expresses that they are unwell mentally, they are usually granted time off work to recover and recuperate. This practice is not common in Nigeria, but it is something I strongly believe we should adopt. We are human beings, not machines. Feeling tired and needing rest is perfectly normal. Embracing this mindset and encouraging self-care in our society is a cause I’m deeply committed to advancing.

What challenges did you face in introducing advanced technology to your clients, to ensure that you remain at the forefront of the wellness sector?
One of the ongoing challenges is the adoption of laser treatments, largely due to widespread misconceptions. Many clients express their concerns, mistakenly believing that lasers can cause cancer or other serious health risks. I always strive to reassure them that these technologies are safe, but I recognise that these concerns stem from a lack of awareness. Since many people are not well-informed, it becomes essential for us to continuously educate and clarify the facts. What is particularly difficult is that, despite thorough explanation, some individuals return with the same misconceptions.

Raising awareness around laser treatments is not an easy task, especially in a country like Nigeria, where technological advancement is still in its early stages. Nonetheless, we must persist in our efforts to inform, sensitise and educate people, ensuring they understand that our procedures are safe and will not cause harm in the long term.

Neubelle Med and Wellness Center also emphasises holistic well-being. Can you elaborate on the importance of this approach and how it benefits your clients?
True wellness, in my opinion, is rooted in a holistic approach- caring for the entire being through natural methods. This involves practices such as massages, yoga, exercise, and other activities that promote overall well-being. Whether we acknowledge it or not, a holistic approach significantly benefits our mental state. While the aesthetic aspects may enhance our physical appearance, how we truly feel about ourselves from within is equally important.

At our centre, we have consistently promoted that it is not just acceptable, but essential, to take time for self-care rituals. Whether it is a weekly massage or a hammam ritual involving thorough exfoliation, these practices can have a profound impact. Many of my clients have attested to this. One of them even remarked that after a session, she felt like a ‘brand new baby’ ready to take on the world. It’s that sense of renewal, clarity and clear-headedness that draws people back time and time again.

In the current economic climate, where stress levels are high, people are willing to invest in anything that helps bring them peace of mind. A clear head and a sense of well-being are invaluable, and we are here to provide just that.

How do you prioritise your own wellness and relaxation, and can you share some of your favourite self-care practices?
Living in Nigeria can be incredibly stressful- between the driving, the pollution, and the daily grind. That is why I make self-care a priority. I take my wellness and relaxation very seriously; it is something I never compromise on. Anyone who knows me is aware that I’m a strong advocate for self-care. That is my way of life.

I ensure that I get a massage once a week and indulge in a hammam ritual every ten days. My favourite self-care practice is my skincare routine, which I never overlook. I also enjoy bonding with my friends over hammam sessions which I like to call ‘hammam dates’.

When people compliment my appearance, they often do not realise the effort I put into maintaining it. By simply observing the results, many are inspired to take better care of themselves. So yes, I prioritise my wellness and do not take it lightly. I actively avoid anything that brings stress into my life, and it is well known that I am a staunch advocate for peace and tranquillity.

Community empowerment is a significant focus for you. How does your business contribute to training and providing employment opportunities for the youth in Nigeria?
I am deeply committed to giving back in any way I can. Recently, I launched an initiative called ‘Get Well with Neubelle.’ This event is designed to uplift and encourage individuals from all walks of life.

Our first session, held on the 4th of August, was dedicated to mothers, recognising the unique challenges they face. We gathered about thirty women for a complimentary session, providing them with care and attention that left them feeling rejuvenated and renewed.

At Neubelle, we are proud to have over 20 dedicated staff members. Over the years, we have invested in their growth by providing training from the ground up, supporting their education, and offering specialised courses to deepen their knowledge of our services. Our goal is to equip them with the skills and confidence to eventually become independent professionals.

It brings me immense joy to see that two of our former staff members have gone on to establish their own practices. They started with no prior experience in the wellness industry, and with our support, they have flourished.

What aspirations for the future can you share with us on how you envision your impact on the Nigerian beauty and wellness industry?
My vision is to create a world where everyone understands the importance of self-care and prioritises it in their daily lives, even from a young age. This aspiration extends beyond individual well-being to raising awareness and educating people on the significance of taking care of themselves.

We have already made significant strides in providing employment opportunities for young people. My hope is to see wellness spaces in every corner of our communities, making self-care an integral part of our lifestyle. Ultimately, I want self-care to become second nature to all, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources they need to maintain their overall well-being.
